Heeding the call.

Driving for me is therapeutic. I’m not talking of the beltway driving of city life either. I’m wholly speaking of the open roads that wind their way along river banks, carve their way through the hillsides, and provide the lines of separation for the farmer’s fields. I have to get out every so often and hit the open road.

Many bike owners get the itch for it and I understand. For me it’s a time of settling down the mind and reconnecting. It doesn’t take long if the roads are open and clear, but it does take separation. It pulls me away from the normal distractions that surround me. At times, I picture Jesus pulling himself away too, but he would aim for the seaside (Mark 3:7 AMP).

This weekend as I drove around for a variety of reasons, I had plenty of time to hide-away in the Lord. Many drivers were out there doing what they needed to do. For several it was an escape from the confines of life imposed by local and state restrictions. The ability to move around felt good.

In the going was a type of “coming in”, where I pressed-on in the Lord feeling the mark as I went. The fjords of the Lord are long and deep. Man can only explore them while here on earth and share that with those he has in his camp.

The rocky walls lined with sediment and crusty cliffs spread about with remote patches of grass and shrubbery. Lines upon lines. Bend upon bend. They push back deep into the heart of the land. The water is guided by the tides; caves have been forged over time with little inlets of sandy beaches as you pull into the final narrowing hall of the fjord. A creek spills over the upper edge and plunges into the retreating sea. The two waters clap back and forth as the tide fights for superiority. The noise in the taverns echoes the sound of a heavenly voice.

Yes, these fjords we travel along lead us to the heart of the Father. They draw us in. Deeper and deeper. Like David expressed in his way, deep calls unto deep (Psalm 42:7 AMP). We travel our way to the heart of it all, HIM. The journey has been prepared for us and the road may be arduous, long, rocky, and dark at times. Yet one thing remains, one thing I will seek after... to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life (Psalm 27: 4 AMP).

When you begin your journey at the mouth of the fjord, you press-in to something more. Remember we all fall short, but we all must try. It is this journey that at times splinters and certain sojourners fall off of your path and onto a another finger of their own. Others will be grafted into your path. Be wise as a serpent and harmless as a dove (Matthew 10:16 AMP). Take the journey in fullness of heart and lift your voice to the sound of crushing waves!

Godspeed, The JourneyMan

Ps. Today’s story is driven by a distinct impression of a fjord and the depths we find as we journey towards its origin. Chart your course, but be flexible, stay firm and even when you can’t see, just trust in Him.

Psalm 42:7 AMP “Deep calls to deep at the sound of your waterfalls; All Your breakers and your waves have rolled over me.”

Psalm 27:4 AMP “ One thing I have asked of the Lord, and that I will seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life...”

II Corinthians 6:17 AMP “So come out from among unbelievers and be separate,” says the Lord...

Matthew 10:16 AMP “Listen carefully: I am sending you out like sheep among wolves; so be wise as serpents, and innocent as doves.”

Mark 3:7 AMP “Jesus withdrew to the sea with His disciples...”
