Feeling like and aged banana. Bruised, discolored, a bit soft, and full of delight! Sometimes the original intent of the fruit has to be rediscovered. It may have been purchased or picked with a single thought to peal and eat, but after sitting around exposed to time and temperature the ripe fruit becomes less desirable. This is when it can be tossed out or repurposed.

Joseph was young. He had a dream. He shared this dream. It created a sense of awe and purpose in him, but in others, jealousy. Joseph was sold. His trip led him on an undesired path. One that his dream did not reveal. In fact, it was intended to keep him far away from his dream. But God had a different plan.

The banana is less appealing in its overripe condition. Its mushy consistency makes it hard to eat as a snack or meal. But if it is repurposed into a greater plan, the fruit serves up much more! And that once desirable fruit now has a new life that can be shared in a fresh loaf of banana bread! But the fruit has to linger in order for it to be just right for its greater masterpiece.

Sitting in a cell, betrayed by the wife of his former master, Joseph seems lost to his dream. He has the favor of God upon him and is utilized by those in charge for his talents. It seems others see a value in the aging fruit. That’s when the God appointment happens. When all seemed lost and out of control, it was actually propelling him to his destiny. Joseph would become the hand of Pharaoh.

In his new station, he was able to appreciate the journey he was compelled to take. It led him into the fulfillment of his dream. He was in a place and position to aid, save, and secure his family and the future of Israel.

Even though time had spoiled his youthful vigor and tendencies, it didn’t kill his purpose that God had intended for him. So wherever you find yourself today, fret not. You have a purpose to fulfill. If you feel shackled, beaten down, spoiled, and misplaced, know you are right where you are supposed to be. Lift up your head for your salvation is near (Luke 21: 28)!

Godspeed, The Journeyman

Ps. Today’s story comes from the faithfulness of God. He can’t help it; it is in His nature! The story of Joseph can be found in Genesis 37-50. Enjoy the read!
